Gentleman’s Dub Club
Gentleman’s Dub Club is a nine-piece band that formed in Leeds in early 2006. With a style based in dub, ska and roots reggae, GDC have burst onto the UK circuit, rocking gigs and festivals up and down the country with their super high energy show. Combining tight grooves and a heavyweight sound, they bring the party to crowds of all ages hungry for a dance floor workout, with their gigs often ending in a frenzied mosh pit reminiscent of a mid 80’s ska night. Live effects and mixing make for a crystal clear sound, and the band’s larger than life stage presence makes for a mesmerising experience.
The Correspondents
DJ Chuckles and Mr Bruce are The Correspondents. This veteran duo play swing with a contemporary twist; the Big Band sound of the 20s and 30s is revamped for the 21st Century.
Chuckles is the music maker, a highly skilled producer creating tracks that are lyrical and jazzy yet bounce like hip hop and breaks. His talent as a producer is matched by his agility as a DJ. Mr Bruce is a modern day dandy whose singing (and dancing) is equally difficult to categorise. Despite growing up on a diet of jungle and drum’n’bass, he is an eloquent MC who scats and sings like a cabaret compère about clowns, rogues and two tone brogues.
Kidkanevil
By far KidKanevil is one of the UK’s finest hip hop producers and DJ’. At times like these when UK popular music wallows in its own mess, it’s artists like KidKanevil that provide a fleeting snapshot of the reality of 21st century Britain.
Since 2007 Kidkanevil has released his debut critically acclaimed LP, featuring contributions from the likes of Lateef (Quannum) and Yarah Bravo (DJ Vadim), worked on innumerable remixes (including DJ Vadim, Bonobo, Diesler and many more) and completed only this summer his second album, the fantastically titled ‘Back Off Man, I’m A Scientist’.
Stenchman
Spreading the stench since summer 2007, this artist has already made a big name for himself as one of the craziest producers in Dubstep. With a combination of in your face bass lines and an out of the box use of samples, he is definitely a name to watch. One of only a handful of artists to perform with a face mask, Stenchman is definitely not your every day character.
Bar9
This DJ and producer has been busy of late with new tracks and remixes flying of the Dubstep conveyerbelt. With releases on Z Audio, Dark Circles and Audio Freaks, plus a touring calendar that sees him take in most of the UK, the mighty Exodus Festival in Croatia and also a trip to Russia between now and Xmas. His balls-out style of gnarled mid range synths and industrial halfstep basically sounds heavier than 99% of the field which accounts for his massive popularity and status at the top of the game.
